We have just learned of the agreement between Walt Disney and Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) concerning the rights to broadcast in streaming and linear television in the United States of the Sony catalog on the various sources of Disney distribution. This applies to the Disney + and Hulu streaming services, as well as linear entertainment networks such as ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic. The deal covers theatrical releases from 2022 to 2026.
This contract also grants rights to a significant number of titles from iconic SPE libraries, ranging from the “Jumanji” and “Hotel Transylvania” franchises to the Marvel Universe, including Spider-Man. This gives Disney enormous programming potential on its platforms and makes them key destinations for a solid collection of Spider-Man films...
