Twitter is testing the ability to watch YouTube videos directly in its app on iOS

The social network is testing starting today on iOS the ability to watch YouTube videos shared in tweets, directly from the timeline, without having to leave the application.

You may soon be able to watch YouTube videos on Twitter without having to exit the app. At least that's what the latest test launched by the social network suggests.

In a tweet posted by its Twitter Support account, the platform says it is starting a test on iOS allowing users to watch YouTube videos shared in tweets, directly from the timeline.

So far, only videos hosted on the social network can be played directly from the timeline. To play the YouTube videos shared in tweets, on mobile as well as on desktop, the user is automatically redirected to the web page of the streaming video service.

Unfortunately, don't expect to be one of the happy few to be able to preview this feature, as Twitter plans to test it only in Canada, the United States, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

This test should be spread over a period of four weeks. Depending on the results, Twitter will adapt, says a spokesperson.

The experiment comes a week after Twitter announced it was testing the full-frame display of images in tweets and the ability to post videos in 4K.
