VideoLAN has just updated its multimedia player to bring it native compatibility with Macs equipped with an Apple Silicon processor.
If VLC already worked with the latest Macs equipped with an ARM processor, VideoLAN's multimedia player was only compatible with these machines thanks to the use of Rosetta 2, the software module allowing to run applications designed for Macs. Intel.
The publisher has just updated VLC to version 3.0.12, a refresh that offers native compatibility with Apple Silicon chips from which it can now take full advantage.
This new version of VLC is not universal (embedding both the Intel version and the M1 version), users will have to download the binaries corresponding to their machine. The version dedicated to Macs equipped with an M1 processor is, in fact, stamped 3.0.12.1.
Besides the arrival of Apple chip support, this update fixes a number of bugs and brings visual improvements to macOS Big Sur.
