Google Maps is launching a news feed of places near you to compete with Facebook

Post by sanjay kumar »

The Discover tab will allow you to easily find nearby places recommended by other users.

Google has just updated its mapping application and is pushing Maps further in the direction of social networks. The Discover tab, displayed by default when you open the app, will now display a news feed of nearby places recommended by other users.

This new space will provide immediate access to the latest comments and reviews published by the “Local Guide” but also by the people you follow, in places close to your geographical location.

Each day, this news feed will be updated to provide you with new information on local businesses and establishments.

If you follow specific locations on Google Maps, any updates they post will appear in your News Feed. When you travel, or when you move around the map, the news feed will update based on your location to give you easy access to recommendations from local users.

In addition, the content displayed in this section will automatically adapt to the preferences you have entered in Maps.

The addition of this new function should also benefit professionals. Establishments with a business profile on Maps, and that they use it to update their information and promotional offers,

will be able to reach a much larger audience, their publications being automatically propelled into the news feed of geographically close users.

The deployment of this news feed is underway in Google Maps and should be available in the coming days for all users, both on iOS and Android...
