Huawei to launch HarmonyOS beta for developers on December 18 At HDC2020 in September this year, Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS 2.0, its distributed operating system for all scenarios, and announced that it would release a beta version of the OS for developers at the end of the year. Huawei's consumer software president Wang Chenglu has previously noted that everything is going according to plan - the current research and development progress goes smoothly, and the launch is expected in December.

Now Huawei has announced that the beta version of HarmonyOS for mobile developers will be released on December 18 (the date, however, may still change), and some smartphone users will be able to update their devices to the preliminary version of the new platform in January and February next year. The owners of the Mate 40 and P40 are expected to be the first to receive the update.

After several months of testing, the final version of HarmonyOS will be launched. Recall: earlier, the Chinese manufacturer noted that more than 90% of Huawei and Honor smartphones released to date can eventually be upgraded to this operating system. The benchmark is EMUI 11.

At this year's Huawei HDC Developers Conference, Richard Yu also talked about plans to release the open source HarmonyOS. Sources for devices with RAM from 128 KB to 128 MB became available on September 10th. In April next year, those who wish will be able to get access to the source codes for devices with a RAM capacity from 128 MB to 4 GB; Finally, in October 2021, sources for devices with 4 GB of RAM or more will be released...
