Euro 2020: myCANAL deploys a 4K HDR stream on Apple TV and Android TV..

BeIN Sports subscribers via myCANAL can now watch all matches in 4K HDR. Previously, the “4K Event” stream played an SDR image. Please note, not all equipment is compatible.

Good news for owners of an Apple TV 4K 2021 , an Nvidia Shield TV box or a Sony connected TV , the myCANAL applicationcan now stream Euro 2020 matches in 4K HDR quality if you have a compatible TV.

After having broadcast the first matches of the competition in 4K SDR, the group informs us of this technical change intended for the most high-end devices on the market.


Automatic on Android, a setting at Apple

Unfortunately, the list of devices eligible for this 4K HDR stream is very small, due to important technical requirements. If you're on Android TV and using an Nvidia or Sony device, you shouldn't have to do anything.

The 4K Event stream , which broadcasts beIN Sports 1 4K , will automatically switch to 4K HDR if you are using myCANAL 5.0 or 5.1.

You should feel an improvement in the quality of the broadcast, especially in terms of colors.

On Apple TV 4K, only for the 2021 model, the activation of the 4K HDR stream is manual. Apple does not allow developers to distinguish the 2021 model from the 2017 model, so enabling 4K HDR by default is not possible on tvOS.

In myCANAL (remember to update the application to version 5.1), go to your profile, choose “Settings” then, in “Expert settings”, choose the “HDR on certain channels”

menu . Here you can ask your latest generation Apple TV to choose a 4K HDR stream rather than 4K SDR.

Canal + tells us that its Canal decoder has been able to stream in 4K HDR automatically from day one.

In addition to high-end Apple and Android devices, this French option also exists to benefit from beIN in 4K.
